Skilladelphia FAQ

BASKETBALL & LACROSSE CLINICS

  • Enrollment is limited to 25-30 players per clinic. Participation is first-come, first-served.

  • Our clinics are fun, fast, and personalized. The coaches help kids learn and reinforce basketball or lacrosse basics. We focus on shooting, passing, ball/stick handling, defense, footwork, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

  • Yes: low stress!  Skilladelphia coaches prioritize fun in their instructional sessions.  They briefly demonstrate a skill or drill, and then work in small groups to help players learn and improve while having fun and developing good habits. Coaches also look for opportunities to encourage friendly competition among players.

  • No whistles.
    No ranking or comparisons.
    No 5v5.*

Skilladelphia is not a rec league. We emphasize skill-building. We welcome all skill levels because players benefit by getting tons and tons of reps, positive reinforcement, and coaches who emphasize teaching basketball and lacrosse basics.

    *OK, we sometimes play 5v5

  • Briefly, it’s an opportunity for players and their parents, guardians, siblings, and friends to goof around together.

Some of our players have hoops at home, but many don’t. So we build in optional time at the end of our clinics to give kids some unstructured play before heading home!

  • Skilladelphia’s after school clinics take place at Old Pine Community Center (OPCC) during their long-running Afterschool Program.

Old Pine helps Skilladelphia with player pickup from McCall, Meredith, Nebinger, and St. Peter’s elementary schools.

Old Pine Aftercare is also a great program, and provides snacks, homework help, and supervised activities. If your player is participating in any of Skilladelphia’s night clinics, it’s a great place for a kid to be before getting to the gym on time for basketball or lacrosse.

If a player does not have a basketball, we have plenty available.

  • A 2012 market research survey of 300 kids suggested many kids report wishing they could play sports without their parents watching.

So sure, stay! Or give yourself an hour and a half break if you want.  Your call! But if you do stay… please let the coaches (and only the coaches) coach.

  • No, your attendance is not required and our coaches will be on hand to supervise.  You can get your child when the free play section is over.

  • Honestly... for the most part we've got it covered (hopefully!). We vet our coaches and prioritize staffing women leaders who have a strong background in the sport.

But there might be nights where having a parent or two monitor a basket or a station is needed. So let us know if you are interested and we’ll work you in as needed!

WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?

  • WRONG!  But she is a sensible human and mother of two who hangs around and helps make Skilladelphia a success, which is great!

  • Pat is Mac's friend from college.  He comes from a long line of Egans who all played and/or coached basketball with their shirts tucked in. He was once Kobe Bryant's ball-boy.  And, combined, he is the most patient person and fundamentally sound basketball player Mac has ever met.

SUPPORT

  • After expenses and program reinvestment is covered, all profits from clinic earnings go to OPCC. As of spring 2026, Skilladelphia has donated $24,000 to OPCC.

  • For sure! Thank you for asking. We are pretty scrappy. So if you have marketing, PR, IT, fundraising, artistic, or administrative skills, we’ll likely be able to find a way put them to use!
